Art Form: Textile arts, silk painting

“Silk is one of those indulgent fabrics that evoke images luxury and feminine sensuality, which for a mother of two boys is so far removed from everyday life, that it is escapism at its best. Sometimes I’ll start with an idea, but other times, I will twist or wrap it shibori-style to give me a back-drop to spur my imagination. I enjoy painting on silk because it reminds me so much of watercolors, but the color will set so that the results are permanent. It is wearable and can be used as table cloths or hankies or whatever takes your fancy. I have a degree in art education and have been drawn to the folk arts/crafts whether it is paper-making, tatting, crocheting, knitting, felting, or silk painting.”
